CANNES REPORT - PABLOS' THE CHOSEN ONES

Grim Mexican sex trafficking drama (are sex trafficking dramas ever not grim?) The Chosen Ones isn't exactly the first choice of critics at Cannes. Following its premiere a few days back, the film, which is competing for the Un Certain Regard prize at the festival, has slowly drawn journalists and other fest-goers in, and they've come out with noticeably mixed reactions. There's praise for director David Pablos' technique, though, and with Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna serving as executive producers, the film could enjoy a moderate international expansion.
