WILL THE HOMESMAN BRING HOME THE PALME FOR TOMMY LEE JONES AT CANNES?

By the looks of things, Tommy Lee Jones' second film as director (and second to screen in competition at Cannes) is a mixed bag, with regard to both tone and quality. An oddity, then, which makes me even more eager to see it. Many reviewers note the strength of the acting performances, but further awards prospects in the film's native country later this year don't appear likely. I've collated reviews from A. A. Dowd at The A. V. Club, Eric Kohn at IndieWire, Geoff Andrew at Sight & Sound, Todd McCarthy at The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Labuza at The Film Stage, Peter Debruge at Variety, Mike D'Angelo at The Dissolve, Oliver Lyttleton at The Playlist, Robbie Collin at The Telegraph and Peter Bradshaw at The Guardian.
