Winter Sleep will be maverick Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan's fifth film to screen in competition at Cannes; all four others have picked up major awards for Ceylan. Much as I'd like the only female Palme winner to date to bestow the top prize upon the first woman to do so individually (Jane Campion's The Piano won in a tie with Chen Kaige's Farewell My Concubine, you'll remember), it kinda feels like time for Ceylan to win the award. He's a worthy director, and this film looks like a worthy choice. The festival begins in a few days just!
