THE SALT OF THE EARTH IS THE SALT OF CANNES

It's not just films directed by women that get the short shrift at Cannes, but documentaries as well. Too few feature in the main competition lineup, a point that has been driven home by the critical success of Juliano Ribeiro Salgado and Wim Wenders' doc The Salt of the Earth, on Salgado's photographer father Sebastiao. Among the exultant responses from critics are reviews from Andrew Pulver in The Guardian, Boyd van Hoeij in The Hollywood Reporter, Barbara Scharres in RogerEbert.com and Jay Weissberg in Variety.
