GIRLHOOD DOES GOOD AT CANNES

Cue yet more voices calling out for the Cannes competition selection team to buck their ideas up. Celine Sciamma's third film, Girlhood, has broken in the Directors' Fortnight section of the festival in very good form, according to critics. I'll be looking forward to this film, with its refreshing female-centric and black-centric slants, when it's made available to me, since Jessica Kiang at The Playlist, David Rooney at The Hollywood Reporter and Peter Debruge at Variety have all reacted very positively to Sciamma's latest.
