BIRD PEOPLE TAKES FLIGHT AT CANNES

Pascale Ferran is one of several female filmmakers to have missed out on a competition slot at Cannes this year, with her new film Bird People relegated to the Un Certain Regard selection instead. Critics have been somewhat divided though largely impressed, yet baffled by the film, which is described by more than one as being 'a singular experience'. Here are reports from the festival courtesy of Mike D'Angelo at The Dissolve, Peter Debruge at Variety, Oliver Lyttleton at The Playlist, Barbara Scharres at RogerEbert.com, Jordan Mintzer at The Hollywood Reporter and A. A. Dowd at The A. V. Club.
