10 YEARS AT THE MOVIES: BEST EDITING - LEE SMITH (INCEPTION)

Lee Smith is one of the most dynamic editors working in Hollywood today. And, after years of work on projects undeserving of his talents (save his collaborations with Peter Weir), he met Christopher Nolan. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were excellent examples of the type of film with the perfect content to show off his skill at action editing, but could a finer one exist than Nolan's Inception, with its multiple layers of narrative, including several action scenarios occurring simultaneously? His thrilling job on the film, for which he was inexplicably overlooked by AMPAS in favour of the editing in films such as The King's Speech and The Fighter, is hardly subtle, but it is certainly technically outstanding.
