A FEW CURVEBALLS FROM THE SAN DIEGO FILM CRITICS SOCIETY NOMINATIONS

All dem critics groups lately have been laying it on thick with the long lists of nominations, so the San Diego Film Critics Society thought they'd join in on the fun. Serious love for Short Term 12, as it appears on a Best Film slate and a Best Director one, each comprised of just five films. Young-skewing acting nominations don't include Bruce Dern, Judi Dench, June Squibb, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. I'm delighted by four of those cinematography nominees, especially by a nomination for Emmanuel Lubezki for To the Wonder, but I'm perplexed by all the love of late for Simon Duggan's work on The Great Gatsby. Anyway... A week from now, on the 17th of December, they'll announce their winners.

want to explain cinematography a bit for the ultra novice ??

haven't heard arcade fire thing for 'her' and really i probably rather perfer not too. man.that's a horrible band.today's alt stuff so damn bland and toothless. guess that's how you get popular...

this record is 500 years old from a seven inch that was likley done for under a $1000 bucks and is more alt/showing an alternative heart and has zero chance of any band even wanting to do anything as different while working in an accessible 'pop' format. and was there ever another band to combine 50/60's (???) influences with guitars like this ???

    time for black tambourine

i'm so glad that band like this couldn't count. so we can get the ultra *normalness* of arcade fire.yes truly "alternative" has won. puts gun to head.
