Richard Ayoade's Dostoyevsky adaptation The Double has been met with acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it had its world premiere. Henry Barnes does note in The Guardian that some may find the film 'a little arch' (natch) but it's nonetheless a five-star rave from Barnes himself. 'Special and singular filmmaking at its best' claims Kevin Jagernauth in an A- review in The Playlist. And, in TwitchFilm, Todd Brown states that Ayoade's sophomore film as director is 'very nearly flawless'.
A couple more reviews: John Turturro's Fading Gigolo does not see him step much closer to the mainstream as a director, at least according to The Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy in a mixed write-up. And you could have asked me to let you know that Mad Men's Matthew Weiner's first film, You Are Here, would be shit, since I'm no fan of his super-successful TV show. But don't ask me. Ask The Playlist's Christopher Schobert.
Richard Ayoade is quickly proving to be a rising British talent. After the well-received Submarine in 2011, The Double has racked up some stellar reviews. Moss is flipping it.
