Tracy Letts' acclaimed play August: Osage County has been adapted for the screen by John Wells, but reviews haven't been as complimentary to this starry staging. Kevin Jagernauth has good things to say about the cast in The Playlist, but little else. And there's a middling B- review from Drew McWeeny in HitFix. But there's a positive response from The Telegraph's Tim Robey in which lead Julia Roberts receives particular notice. It's out in the UK on the 13th of December, and on Christmas Day in the US.

How do you see the Luke-warm reception of August: Osage County with awards' perspective? With such a strong slate of movies having been seen and will be seen, the odds of it being ignored in the mix is very much possible. But still think world isn't prepared or yet reached that stage to ignore Streep and/or Roberts in this kind of an ensemble. But complete abandonment isn't possible, right?

I'm getting Doubt vibes. Strong, starry, Streep-y cast, mixed reviews, stage-to-screen adaptation. I don't think John Wells is a big enough name to keep this in the Best Picture race now, even if Meryl and Julia Roberts' chances remain alive.
