NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL LINEUP ANNOUNCED

Plenty of cinematic nourishment for the filmgoers headed to NYC 27/09-13/10, as the slate for NYFF 2013 has revealed. Lots of Cannes favourites, mixed in with some potential awards contenders.

  • Captain Phillips (Paul Greengrass) - Opening Night Gala Selection
  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) - Centrepiece Gala Selection
  • Her (Spike Jonze) - Closing Night Gala Selection
  • About Time (Richard Curtis)
  • Abuse of Weakness (Catherine Breillat)
  • Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (Declan Lowney)
  • All Is Lost (J.C. Chandor)
  • American Promise (Joe Brewster and Michele Stephenson)
  • At Berkeley (Frederick Wiseman)
  • Bastards (Claire Denis)
  • Blue Is the Warmest Colour (Abdellatif Kechiche)
  • Burning Bush (Agnieszka Holland)
  • Child of God (James Franco)
  • Gloria (Sebastian Lelio)
  • The Immigrant (James Gray)
  • Inside Llewyn Davis (Ethan Coen and Joel Coen)
  • The Invisible Woman (Ralph Fiennes)
  • Jealousy (Philippe Garrel)
  • Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian) (Arnaud Desplechin)
  • The Last of the Unjust (Claude Lanzmann)
  • Like Father, Like Son (Hirokazu Koreeda)
  • The Missing Picture (Rithy Panh)
  • My Name Is Hmmm... (Agnes B)
  • Nebraska (Alexander Payne)
  • Nobody's Daughter Hae Won (Hong Sang Soo)
  • Norte, the End of History (Lav Diaz)
  • Omar (Hany Abu-Assad)
  • Only Lovers Left Alive (Jim Jarmusch)
  • The Square (Jehane Noujaim)
  • Stray Dogs (Tsai Ming Liang)
  • A Touch of Sin (Jia Zhang Ke)
  • Le Week-End (Roger Michell)

I'm not terribly impressed by this list. Such a major film festival could surely do more to show premieres from less well-known directors. This is the weakest festival lineup I've seen so far this year (except Belfast, obvs lol).
