  1. Gotta give 'em credit for consistently showing some serious guts over past many years. Cannes, irrespective of the jury and jury president, they always go for the kill. There are no favors, no lobbying, , no politics, no shit. If your movie deserves to have it, best in the eyes of best handpicked filmmakers around the world, Palme d'Or is yours. End of story.

Speilberg, legend as he is, feels to me that
awarding 'Blue is the Warmest Color' with Palme d'Or is the gutsiest thing he has ever done. No offense. Seems to be the Speilberg-fatigue rather than any hate-love towards him that saw the Lincoln to lose at Oscars. No matter how great/different the movie was, you know it's every fabric screamed Speilberg with the recurrent lens(Kaminski) and sound(Williams). Would rather seem him do more of 'Munich' stuff rather than another biopic or a war film in that matter.

France shall again have great year-end award season if not Oscars.
How do you see 'Blue Is the Warmest Colour' Oscar prospects?
To me, honestly, none. Subject matter is enough to shrivel the Academy voters in their pants let alone 3 hours of running time and apparent explicit content. Even it turns out to be teenage Brokeback mountain, it would be difficult to replicate the latter's success with the all round foreign talent. Could easily see France going for better chance with Farhadi's 'The Past'. Bejo could be this year's French attachment to the Oscars.

And impressed with the Speilberg's jury to hand out the Palme d'Or not only to the director but also it's two lead stars. Hats off. That is the clear indication of some genuine embodiment of work by the actors.

Can't help but feel one of the stars in 'Blue Is the Warmest Colour' shall go on to become year's Emmanuelle Riva/Thure Lindhardt for you. Prepare to be heartbroken, brother. No offense.

    1. Heheh no I like a good read!

I don't rate Blue Is the Warmest Colour's Oscar prospects. It could maybe sneak in to Foreign Language Film if France have the balls to submit it, but last year they picked The Intouchables over Holy Motors so I don't have my hopes up! Gosh no, even if I love Adele / Lea's perfs, I sure don't expect either of them to be nominated, so someone else will have to take Emmanuelle Riva / Michael Fassbender's place in this year's race for me! The Academy likely won't touch it; you're right, The Past is a much surer bet.

I kind of thought Nanni Moretti's jury should have done the same last year! He did at least mention Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant when announcing the award. But I liked that they included Exarchopoulos and Seydoux. I knew, after reading the reviews, that Nicole Kidman was gonna love it lol. Right up her street.

I'd love another Munich from Spielberg. Or another Schindler's List. Not another Indiana Jones fs.

    1. Trot to it, Sam! This looks like a bona fide masterpiece, and sounds like one too. In fact, I'm looking forward to seeing most of the Cannes competition films this year, and several others. I think it was a pretty good year on the Croisette!
