PALME D'OR FAVOURITE GRIGRIS MET WITH MILD RECEPTION AT CANNES

From director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Grigris was touted as one of the Palme d'Or favourites at this year's Cannes Film Festival. But, although reactions have been far from negative, the Chadian crime drama hasn't lived up to its high expectations, and is being called a minor work in Haroun's canon by some.

Stephen Dalton in The Hollywood Reporter is one of several to praise the film's visual style, and one of the more-enamoured with Haroun's film. A feminist twist is reported in Variety by Guy Lodge, and in The Guardian by Peter Bradshaw, who gives Grigris three stars out of five. And Eric Kohn's review in IndieWire rates the film a B-.
