OBIT - DEANNA DURBIN

At age 91, actress Deanna Durbin has died. The star of Oscar-nominated films such as One Hundred Men and a Girl and Three Smart Girls, which would come to be remade as The Parent Trap in 1961, was Hollywood's highest paid actress in 1947, at just 26 years old. Born Edna Mae Durbin, she had already been made recipient of a special Academy Award by this stage, as she and Mickey Rooney had been handed the Juvenile Award eight years prior, for their contribution to youth acting in the industry. She retired from acting before even turning 30, though, as she emigrated to France with her husband, and left behind her a career with which she had apparently fallen out of favour. She is survived by her children Jessica and Peter.
