MIXED RESPONSE AT CANNES FOR DESPLECHIN'S JIMMY P

Opinions are divided on Arnaud Desplechin's Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian), which is the French filmmaker's second film in English and stars Benicio del Toro, Mathieu Amalric and Gina McKee. Del Toro plays a Native American who served in WWII and is subsequently diagnosed with schizophrenia; Amalric plays the psychotherapist assigned to him. It's based on a true story.

Scott Foundas at Variety is positive about the film, praising del Toro and Amalric, although noting that Desplechin's abstract rendering of the therapy sessions may prove distancing to some. On Twitter, Sasha Stone is unimpressed, as is Living in Cinema's Craig Kennedy, although he notes that del Toro and Amalric were great.
