CANNES RESPONDS WITH EXUBERANCE TO THE GREAT BEAUTY

Cannes favourite Paolo Sorrentino is back once again at the festival with The Great Beauty, a Fellini-esque muse on Italian society starring Toni Servillo.

If the critical opinion is not exactly rapturous, it's not far off. One of the film's biggest fans is Peter Bradshaw at The Guardian, and Jay Weissberg is similarly enthralled, writing in Variety. The Hollywood Reporter's Deborah Young singles out the talented cinematographer Luca Bigazzi, and is one of many to compare the film to La Dolce Vita. David Jenkins at Little White Lies is on the fence, sharing space with John Bleasdale at CineVue.
