CANNES REACTS MILDLY TO A CASTLE IN ITALY

Valeria Bruni Tedeschi may be best known for being Carla Bruni's sister, and her film A Castle in Italy may be best known for being the only film from a female director in the Cannes Official Selection this year, but now it has been seen, and reactions have been decent, but hardly effusive.

A sentiment expressed by Jessica Kiang in The Playlist is that the film's bourgeois characters perhaps haven't quite earned the sympathy which Bruni Tedeschi intends us to feel for them, a sentiment echoed by many on Twitter. A good report from Scott Foundas in Variety, though, and three stars out of five from Wendy Ide in The Times, although you'll need to be a subscriber to read the full article. Total Film aren't all that impressed on Twitter, though, but srsly, who cares what Total Film thinks?
