The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop. This project has been in the works for the past few years - I think it was even announced before My Week with Marilyn, which earned Oscar nominations for Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh. Naomi Watts was due to play Monroe, and would obvs still be a great choice because she's so brilliant. She has Diana this year, and Two Mothers, and she had The Impossible last year, and she has Birdman and Queen of the Desert coming up as well. With this as well, there must be an Oscar in there somewhere. Like, there must be!
There is always a IT girl, a fantasy darling coming up every year for the critics and predictors to cream on and manipulate all the oscar buzz for her winning, Theron, Witherspoon, Portman, Lawrence....more will come.
