ALAIN GUIRAUDIE'S STRANGER BY THE LAKE ATTRACTS PRAISE AT CANNES

Although its reportedly extremely explicit sexual content may hinder Stranger by the Lake from receiving much attention beyond niche markets, critics who caught the film, which in competing in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival (director Guiraudie's first time in that section, having twice shown in the Directors' Fortnight section) have sung its praises, enjoying its mix of suspense and steaminess.

The message is the same from most voices: understated performances from an unfamiliar cast, luscious cinematography, neat sound design, graphic sex. Sounds good to me! Check out reviews from Guy Lodge at Hitfix, Boyd van Hoeij at Variety, Jordan Mintzer at The Hollywood Reporter and Fionnuala Halligan at ScreenDaily if you fancy knowing more.
