USC SCRIPTER NOMINATIONS

  • Joshuah Bearman, author of the article 'The Great Escape', Antonio J. Mendez, author of 'The Master of Disguise', and screenwriter Chris Terrio, for Argo
  • For Beasts of the Southern Wild, dramatist Lucy Alibar, who wrote the play 'Juicy and Delicious', and screenwriter Benh Zeitlin, who co-wrote the screenplay with Alibar
  • Novelist Yann Martel and screenwriter David Magee for Life of Pi
  • Doris Kearns Goodwin, author of 'Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln', and screenwriter Tony Kushner for Lincoln
  • Stephen Chbosky, author of the novel 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower', as well as the screenplay based upon the book
  • For Silver Linings Playbook, author Matthew Quick and screenwriter David O. Russell
A tie resulted in six nominees, rather than the usual five. All of the Oscar nominees are present, alongside The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which was a strong contender for an Oscar nomination and quite likely came sixth. If Lincoln is the frontrunner for the Oscar, it's the runaway frontrunner here, as this award honours not only the adaptation but the original source material too, and Doris Kearns Goodwin's book is, by all accounts, a formidable piece of work. Winners will be announced on the 9th of February.

  1. Yeah, no real surprises here. The two top scripts of these six for me are LINCOLN and THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER.

    1. I'd give my vote to Beasts of the Southern Wild, although Lincoln would be a worthy winner. I'll be super surprised should anything other than Lincoln win this one.
