Argo wins the first major award of the season voted on after Oscar nominations, suggesting that the buzz created by its Globe and BFCA wins is indeed real. It's now a serious contender for Best Picture. Should it win the DGA (and, less probably, either SAG or WGA), we have a bona fide frontrunner. Otherwise, Lincoln still looks like the most likely alternative, and since Affleck can't win the Director Oscar, Spielberg's likely lead in that category come February 24th could help that film to a Best Picture win over Argo. Since tonight's SAG Ensemble award might go to Silver Linings Playbook, though, look for it to upset, although DGA is out of its reach, of course. Things are just a little bit clearer now, thanks to PGA. Nominations are here.
