Yet more good news for Argo from smaller critics groups - there's a point to be made in the success it's had over Zero Dark Thirty, and I don't need to make it. Not particularly inspiring picks here, although that's usually going to be the case this late in the season. Come January, you tend to need a starry red carpet do to ignite anyone's interest. Still, props for being one of the few groups this year to pick Holy Motors as the Best Foreign Language Film.

Dont u think ZD30 has lost sm of its heat as frontrunner?

    1. It lost its outright frontrunner status weeks ago, when the backlash started. I guess the critics groups didn't feel so comfortable doing what they did to The Social Network to another film again, or some smaller groups wanted to assert their independence and go for something else. They've mostly gone with Argo, anyway.

It's between Argo, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty atm. Les Mis or Silver Linings Playbook could re-enter the fray too. Django Unchained has an outside shot. The bigger groups may help to clarify things. Or maybe not.

    2. Thanks a lot fr the overall input brother.
Honoured 2 ve recieved the reply.
As much as the LINCOLN being his best work in years,Speilberg hasnt even picked up a single pre-precursor award and still he remains the favourite for BD.
      Strange world.
      KINGS' SPEECH ALL OVER again.
As u r8ly pointed out cmn week is very crucial.

  2. 1 more thing brother.
Supporting Actor category still intrigues me.
Its not worth debatin over as Academy ve already voted.
But still wud like 2 hear ur thoughts.
TOMMY LEE JONES AND PHILIP HOFFMAN SEYMOUR r frontrunners atm.
    ARKIN seems r8 after 'em.
At the bubble line are- DICAPRIO,WALTZ,HENRY,MCCONAUGHEY,DENIRO, BARDEM.
Crowe,Redmayne,McGregor,Goodman,Law r out of picture as v speak now.
Potential shockers- JASON CLARK, SAMUEL L JACKSON.
So u still belive DJANGO can pull off 2 nods?
HELP did this last yr.But SPENCER AND CHASTAIN HAD TONS OF recognitions.
What bothers me is the CREDIBITIY and ACCOUNTABILITY of performances as supprting role.
SEYMOUR & WALTZ R ESSENTIALLY CO-LEADs. BOTH R GREAT undoubtedly.
Dont u think the extended screen-space and extra-meaty-role enhances their chances?
And Waltz giving yet another classic performance slightly resembles HANS LANDA 2.0.

ARKIN being ALAN-ARKIN-in-LITTLE-MISS-SUNSHINE all over AGAIN in ARGO conversing the cheesy one-liners & THE BEST LINE OF THE MOVIE.
The same yr wen Arkin won BSA, DiCaprio wasnt acknwledged fr his supporting/co-lead turn in his best performance 4 DEPARTED.
Expected lot of praises fr him going this season wich clearly hasnt happened.
The only major precursor he ve had in last 6 yrs with consistent GR8 award-worthy PERFORMANCES(EVEN THOUGH some dont agree on various issues) is this yrs' NATIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW's supproting award.
And TLJ robbed BSA fm DICAPRIO and FIENNES IN 1993.
So CHRISTMAS-PAST-HAUNTING all over again fr him?
BARDEM & DENIRO were gr8 in SKYFALL and SLP repectuvely.
But seeing these 2 gettn recognized(SAG/BFCA) over unsung/unrewarded performances of JASON CLARK, EDWARD NORTAN, SAMUEL L JACKSON, DWIGHT HENRY is disconcerting.
Lastly FASSBENDER's(lone LONDON CRTITICS nod) fantastical turn as ANDROID in PROMETHEUS AND TOM HARDY's nuanced and flawless perfomance in LAWLESS/ TDKR are completely ignored.
What's ur take on this brother?

    1. Yeah, it's probably between Tommy Lee Jones and Philip Seymour Hoffman. If Alan Arkin, Christoph Waltz and Robert De Niro are all nominated as well, it'll be between five previous winners! But I think Jones will take it - Lincoln is the stronger contender with the Academy overall, compared to The Master.

I do think Django can pull off double nominations in this category. Lead performances placed in supporting are often popular (agreed, that works in Waltz' and Hoffman's favour), and DiCaprio won the NBR, which is very reliable in that category. But anything could happen in Supporting Actor, it's wide open this year.

Lol yeah it could be just like 1993. Another undeserved win for Tommy Lee Jones (not to hate, he's a great actor)! I think DiCaprio got snubbed for The Departed because of category confusion. He got in lead for Blood Diamond, and probably split his leading votes between that and The Departed, and split his Departed voted between leading and supporting.
