Do you think they waited until after the Oscar nominations for a reason? These nominations come off as a combination of surefire nominees, Academy-informed surprises and plainly random surprises. Best Director nominations for Haneke, Russell and Zeitlin? Much love for those three films, and also Rust and Bone, scattershot love for other films, like Argo and The Master. The Georgia critics are weird, though. A little too emphatically weird, and I can't help but draw my own conclusions regarding the prevalence of Oscar nominees here, like Jacki Weaver. But, after days without any word from critics' groups, this is a very interesting, refreshing slate of nominees. Winners will be announced on Friday!

  1. These nominations are crap! Almost a carbon copy of the Academy Nominations, and NOTHING for Les Mis. . . esp. Best Actor for Hugh Jackman & Best Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway (who has ALL the momentum right now)!!

    1. Also, no love for Lincoln as well in the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress categories! If this is their idea of being different. . . EPIC FAIL!!!!

    2. I don't mind them! I agree, too similar to Oscar, which I think has resulted in some odd and dishonest omissions. But some of these nominations please me, like Matthias Schoenaerts, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Samuel L. Jackson, and Amour's prevalence.

  2. I think they are brilliant and refreshing. And no copying the Oscars....look at their reviews. It's all there.
