WGA'S ANNUAL CULL OF GOOD SCREENPLAYS

Every year, the Writers Guild of America pulls its usual and deems many of the top contenders for the two Screenplay Oscars ineligible for their awards. It's an annual occurrence - it shocks no-one, and no-one cares any more. The two leading contenders (Zero Dark Thirty for Original, Lincoln for Adapted) have not been ruled out, and stand good chances at winning at the WGA; the WGA's winners often do go on to win the Oscar.

Ineligible original screenplays:
Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman, Irene Mecchi and Steve Purcell (Brave)
Ava DuVernay (Middle of Nowhere)
Michael Haneke (Amour)
Martin McDonagh (Seven Psychopaths)
Sarah Polley (Take This Waltz)
Sergio G. Sanchez (The Impossible)
Lynn Shelton (Your Sister's Sister)
Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained)

Ineligible adapted screenplays:
Lucy Alibar and Benh Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild)
Jacques Audiard and Thomas Bidegain (Rust and Bone)
Terence Davies (The Deep Blue Sea)
Ronald Harwood (Quartet)
William Nicholson (Les Miserables)
Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel)
Tom Stoppard (Anna Karenina)
