  1. Well, I kinda figured they'd go down this road, but the group is to be applauded in my view, for going with five originally to see what films they really like even at the expense of parroting the big bad Oscar. Bigelow's film opens here on the 19th, and my wife and even my five teenage kids are eager to watch it. There used to be a time when I thought the critics' awards were ultra-important, but while I don't quite feel that way anymore, I still think they do help to size things up and they are always fun to follow. Back in the day (I am 57 now) I followed the National Society of Film Critics, who were always reliable to pick an excellent foreign-language film (i.e. Z, CLAIRE'S KNEE and THE CONFORMIST) Nive to Day-Lewis win and Hathaway get a second nod from the various groups. I'm sure Chastain is great, though my own top choice is Weisz, with Riva and Chastain still to be seen in their respective films.

Great jump here on the announcement!

  2. Well, that's what happens when one spends half their time looking up critic groups on Google!

Yeah, they're not ultra-important. They're not even important. WAFCA are pretty mid-tier important, and that's only within the spectrum of critic groups.
